A Vanity Phone Number Was Just One Thing
We had a number of events this past year, and being so overbooked we even postponed our Annual Meeting. We have however, already scheduled our 7th Annual Teal Tea for Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Stone Terrace by John Henry in Hamilton Square, New Jersey. We will also present a Spring Bingo featuring technology items, watches, tools, along with some favorite handbags.
In 2012 we said a sad good-bye to two retiring Advisory Board members:
Dr. Lorna Rodriguez, Cancer Institute of New Jersey has assumed a new position at CINJ and moves on to focus on her research; she was one of our first Advisory Board members and she will be greatly missed.
Anne Gale, Survivor and past Vice President and Corporate Secretary at ETS, who after four years of dedicated services is moving on to enjoy her retirement. She will continue to support the Foundation behind the scenes. Anne has been an active chairperson and will be truly missed.
We continued to recruit new Advisory Board members and in the spirit of renewed energy and excitement, we welcomed two new members:
Dr. Darlene Gibbon, Chief of Oncology Gynecology, at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Ruby Chan, Executive Adjutant ETS Research & Development.
In September, the Foundation had the great pleasure of donating $15,000 to Fox Chase Cancer Center, specifically for the continued research of Dr. Eric Ariazi. The check presentation was a part our first Teal Tea at the Fox Chase campus. With special thanks to Dr. Mark Morgan, Lisa Perfidio and Bonnie Miller, for their energies to bring this Teal Tea at Fox Chase event a reality.
We are hoping as a result of the positive impact and experience to expand the concept and bring the Tea to other local hospitals during the month of September in recognition of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.
Our online presence received a make-over with a donated website by Red Knight Marketing. A new domain name was integrated (we went from .com to .org); and we have enriched our social media presence with content production and sharing on FaceBook, Twitter and YouTube. Of course we introduced and launched our new vanity phone number, 1-855-TEAL-TEA to better make ourselves available to your needs.
Executive Director, Jean Shipos was appointed as the New Jersey State Ovarian Cancer Task Force Chair. Through her work with members of the New Jersey Department of Health, she collaborated with Turning Towns Teal (Cooper Cancer Institute in Camden, Glassboro, Cranberry, Ewing, Perth Amboy, Somerset, Plainsboro, West Windsor and Morrisville, PA). Throughout the month of September in addition to turning the towns teal, Jean attended many teal ceremonies, spoke, distributed awareness materials and receive acknowledgments and proclamations from New Jersey officials.
The Foundation continued to be an active part of the community by providing approximately 20 gift cards to women undergoing chemotherapy treatment, including a 14 year old girl in Trenton. In addition, cheery and inspirational cards are sent to many women in need of a kind word, encouragement and love.
Thank you for all of your time, contributions and support in 2012 and we look forward to serving in 2013.
