About Teal Tea

Established in 2008, the Teal Tea Foundation was founded by ovarian cancer survivor Jean Shipos with her family and friends. Its mission is to "help raise ovarian cancer awareness and to support research efforts focused on early detection, treatments, and a cure for ovarian cancer - being dedicated to helping all women with their quality of life and long term recovery". To support its mission, the Foundation partners with groups such as the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance (OCNA), the Central Jersey Chamber of Commerce, the Temple - Fox Chase Cancer Center, Robert Wood Johnson and Pennington Ewing Athletic Club (PEAC) as well as other local organizations.  

The Foundation has donated to:

  • The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC)
  • MD Anderson Cooper Cancer Institute
  • Rutgers Cancer Institue of NJ
  • University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center
  • Temple-Fox Chase Cancer Center

Teal Tea Foundation achievements include:

  • Recruiting a sterling Advisory Board to guide the Foundation
  • Holding the annual Teal Tea event since 2007
  • Contributing to and supporting fund-raising events sponsored by the Elixir Fund, MD Anderson Cooper, and the Kaleidoscope of Hope Foundation
  • Becoming a member of the Central Jersey Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit Coalition
  • Sending inspirational cards and gifts to some 30 women a year who are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments
  • Annually distributing 2,500 free bookmarks with the symptoms of ovarian cancer
  • Raising approximately $150,000 for ovarian cancer awareness and research projects
  • Forming a partnership with the New Jersey Department of Health, Office of Education, Control and Prevention and NJ CEED
  • Supporting TURN THE TOWNS TEAL(R) every September
  • Working with Assemblyman Daniel Benson's Office and the NJ Department of Health to turn NJ cities teal
  • Working with other local organizations sharing the same mission including: the Elixir Fund; the Janice Lopez Ovarian Cancer Foundation; Kaleidoscope of Hope Foundation; Lisa's Army; Mary Anne Mazanec Ovarian Cancer Foundation; NOCC
