We are very pleased to introduce Ms. Audrey Harris, the newest member of the Teal Tea Foundation Advisory Board. Ms. Harris begins her term immediately and will be at our next officer meeting to meet and greet everyone.  Ms Harris has a long-term history of working with charitable organizations and of supporting the Teal Tea.  She is currently working with Cecilia Braam in organizing the auction for the Theresa Roba event.

Following is a synopsis of her personal & professional life:

“I was born & bred in Bucks County; blessed to be part of a close knit family with 5 girls.  Mom & Dad were both very active in their community, well into their late 80's.  I thank them every day for the love, fine values, and solid work ethics with which I was raised.

As a NJ Bell/Bell Atlantic/Verizon twice-retired (Dec 2003 & Jan 2012) retiree, I have been active in their TelecomPioneers volunteer organization for over 30 years (Past Chapter President and current Treasurer).  I am also currently involved with two (2) other charitable organizations; i.e. The Contemporary Club of Trenton (Recording Secty) and the Elks in Morrisville.

I am working two (2) days a week (Monday / Wednesday) as receptionist/new patient coordinator for Dr. Sadeer Hannush (eye surgeon) in Langhorne PA.”

A Message From Our President

Recently I had the pleasure of spending the day with my Mom as she celebrated her 89th birthday. 45 years ago when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer we didn’t know if she would survive to see this day! 20 years ago when I was having “female problems” I was afraid I was following in my Mom’s footsteps. Fortunately that was not the case so we were able to celebrate this recent occasion together. That’s why I am involved with the Teal Tea Foundation. I want to help find a cure for ovarian cancer so my two daughters never have to worry about this dreaded disease. My involvement has introduced me to many heroic survivors of ovarian cancer and that just makes me want to do even more. My wish is that all who read this have a blessed and healthy new year in 2013. And that we find a cure very, very soon! Read more Comment 0

A Message From Our Executive Director

Seeing 2012 close makes me realize that the Teal Tea Foundation has been operational four years. When we started in 2008, I often wondered if we’d succeed. In a recent conversation, Dr. Darlene Gibbon, from the Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick and one of our newest Advisory Board members, told me that she clearly sees the growth and accomplishments of the Foundation since 2008. I may not see the steps we’ve taken, the growth and the impact, but she said we’ve made tremendous strides and that our organization is recognized statewide. That was a revelation to me. It not only makes me very proud of our accomplishments, but it also says, “Look at all the women we’ve reached.” We can’t put a value or price on the number of lives that we have touched and sometimes, we don’t even know how we’ve made a difference. But survivor Shari Widmayer and I often say to each other, ”If we’ve saved just one life, if we’ve reached just one woman and helped her with early detection, then the Foundation has made a difference.” I think we’ve done much more than that and I thank everyone for your participation, commitment, support and for making a difference, one cup of tea at a time! We had a number of events this past year, and being so overbooked we even postponed our Annual Meeting. We have however, already scheduled our 7th Annual Teal Tea for Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Stone Terrace by John Henry in Hamilton Square, New Jersey. We will also present a Spring Bingo featuring technology items, watches, tools, along with some favorite handbags. In 2012 we said a sad good-bye to two retiring Advisory Board members: Dr. Lorna Rodriguez, Cancer Institute of New Jersey has assumed a new position at CINJ and moves on to focus on her research; she was one of our first Advisory Board members and she will be greatly missed. Anne Gale, Survivor and past Vice President and Corporate Secretary at ETS, who after four years of dedicated services is moving on to enjoy her retirement. She will continue to support the Foundation behind the scenes. Anne has been an active chairperson and will be truly missed. We continued to recruit new Advisory Board members and in the spirit of renewed energy and excitement, we welcomed two new members: Dr. Darlene Gibbon, Chief of Oncology Gynecology, at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Ruby Chan, Executive Adjutant ETS Research & Development.
